SXSW 2021 – The Future of Cannabis is Appellation Designation
March 16 - March 20
In October 2020, California’s Governor Newsom signed into law SB 67, a bill ensuring that cannabis and cannabis products produced from a recognized “appellation of origin”, as defined by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The bill also authorizes the CDFA to establish a “city of origin” designation. Just as with wine, an appellations designation is valuable knowledge for the consumer. It gives the power to choose where and how their cannabis was grown and in turn rewarding both the customer and the producer with the elevated experience that has transformed wine from a commodity to a regional treasure.
