Tacolicious is a Big Rock favorite for both the people who make the San Francisco Mexican concept successful as well as a spot for lunch, happy hour, or anytime really. Launched in 2009 as a stand at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, Tacolicious now operates in five Bay Area locations in addition to a spin-off in San Miguel de Allende, MX called Taco Lab; mezcal bar Mosto; and cantina Bar San Pancho. In May 2018, the Tacolicious School Project hit a wonderful milestone of raising $1,000,000 for local San Francisco schools since its inception in 2012. Big Rock has been an investor in the Tacolicious group since 2009.
Inspired by the taverns of the ancient Roman neighborhood it was named for, Aventine is also built from San Francisco history – literally. Part of the building’s foundation is the original 19th-century seawall, which marks the very edge of the city of San Francisco during the infamous days of the Barbary Coast. Aventine offers twists on classic San Francisco cocktails like the Pisco Brut Punch, as well as a fabulous selection of fine whiskeys.
Uma Casa is a new Portuguese restaurant located in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood. Uma Casa features a Portuguese-focused wine list, creative fortified wine cocktails, and a delectable raw bar. Chef Antelmo Faria came into the Big Rock family as the executive chef for the Tacolicous restaurant group and expanded into is own endeavor, Uma Casa, in early 2017.
Since opening its doors in 2007 in the beautiful Laurel Heights neighborhood, Spruce has been a coveted institution in the San Francisco restaurant scene. Honors include one highly coveted Michelin star 2011-2015, three and half stars from the San Francisco Chronicle, in addition to numerous years of recognition from Wine Spectator for their wine list. About 80 percent of the produce on the menu comes from SMIP Ranch, a private five-acre farm located in the hills above Woodside that grows vegetables, herbs, and other specialty crops exclusively for Bacchus Management Group’s family of restaurants. Bacchus Management Group’s properties also include The Villiage Pub and The Villiage Bakery in Woodside and The Saratoga in San Francisco. Big Rock invested in Spruce in 2007.

The restaurant’s handsome décor features an eclectic mix of vintage fixtures and furnishings, an open kitchen and an airy sidewalk café that overlooks picturesque Washington Square Park. Park Tavern, which has been nominated for the James Beard Foundation’s Best New Restaurant award and enjoyed long-standing inclusion on San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 100 list since opening in 2011, is owned by restaurateurs Anna Weinberg and Chef Jennifer Puccio, who also operate Marlowe, Petit Marlowe, The Cavalier, and Leo’s Oyster Bar. Big Rock began its investment in Big Night restaurants in 2011 with Park Tavern and subsequently invested in Marlowe and The Cavalier.
Marlowe is a neighborhood bistro owned and operated by husband and wife team Anna Weinberg & James Nicholas, along with chef/partner Jennifer Puccio, since 2010. Weinberg, Nicholas and Chef Puccio followed up Marlowe with the San Francisco classic Park Tavern in North Beach in September 2011, the British inspired brasserie The Cavalier in August 2013, and seafood-focused Leo’s Oyster Bar in January 2016.
The Cavalier is a London inspired brasserie from Restaurateurs Anna Weinberg, James Nicholas and Chef Jennifer Puccio, owners and creators of the critically acclaimed San Francisco restaurants Marlowe and Park Tavern. The Cavalier joins its sister restaurants with both a three star rating from The San Francisco Chronicle, and a listing on the Chronicle’s famed “Top 100 Bay Area Restaurants” for 2014.
Lazy Bear encapsulates the unique San Francisco dining experience. Started as a pop up in 2009 by Chef-owner David Barzelay in an underground venue, the concept became a brick-and-mortar in the Mission in 2015. Rather than the standard restaurant reservation model, Lazy Bear operates more as a dinner party with two 11-course seatings for 40 guests each evening. Big Rock invested in the brick-and-mortar transition in 2015.
Nightbird opened in December of 2016 led by Chef-owner Kim Alter. An elegant boutique restaurant in the heart of San Francisco which embraces community, diversity, and delivers a hospitable and whimsical experience. Nightbird’s cocktail haven Linden Room is a chic and intimate neighborhood gathering place offering stylish and creative cocktails hidden down an alley next to the restaurant.
Souvla is a fast-fine Greek restaurant with locations in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley, NoPa and Mission neighborhoods, inspired by casual souvlaki joints found throughout Greece. The first Souvla opened its doors in April, 2014 in Hayes Valley, and its second in the NoPa neighborhood in June, 2016. The third San Francisco location opened in January, 2017 in San Francisco’s vibrant Mission District.

Che Fico is an Italian Taverna in San Francisco – a space to gather with friends and enjoy warm hospitality, food, and drink in the Nopa neighborhood. Che Fico is dubbed a taverna for both the approachable nature of the menu and the convivial ambiance of the space. Its food focuses on seasonal and local produce, meat, and fish. Che FIco’s driving vision is of cuisine in Northern California as if it is a region in Italy.

Opened in December 2017 in the Hollywood Hills, Hearth & Hound showcases vegetable-centric cooking. Bloomfield’s other restaurants include Tosca Cafe in San Francisco and The Spotted Pig in the West Village.
PRAIRIE is a modern Italian restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District from award winning Chef Anthony Strong (and named after his midwest high school punk rock band). It features rustic Italian fare that fuses influences from Rome and Campania with a California sensibility and an expanded pantry. PRAIRIE also offers a full bar with original cocktails and twists on perennial classics like sparkling negronis and Toki whisky highballs on tap. The curated wine list is primarily Italian with additional selections from France and beyond.
Noosh is an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant in the Pac Heights neighborhood of San Francisco opening at the end of 2018. It comes from John Litz (Lazy Bear) and married chefs Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz — alums of Saison and Mourad. Noosh will feature flavors from the regions of the former Ottoman Empire— present-day countries like Turkey, Israel, Greece, and Armenia.

Marine Layer is a San Francisco-based premium casual apparel brand. Marine Layer designs and manufactures all of their own clothing, and every step of that process occurs here in California. Marine Layer sells through their website and retail stores in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Miami and New York (and expanding).
Carbine Coffee wants to make coffee roasting accessible and easy for businesses and is doing so with their newly released Countertop Roastery. The Roastery is a cloud-connected electric roaster with a small footprint, an accompanying software platform to create specific flavor profiles, and a marketplace for purchasing green coffee beans. The built in software will let customers dial in a pre-set flavor profile for those beans and the machine will automatically roast the beans accordingly. Or customers can create their own flavor profile and Carbine will help them create it. Big Rock invested in Carbine Coffee in 2017.
